What Is ADHD?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, distractibility, and difficulty sustaining focus, which can interfere with daily functioning, academic performance, and relationships. While some degree of distractibility is normal, chronic inattentiveness that impacts quality of life may indicate ADHD.

Psychiatric Evaluations

Our psychiatric evaluations are instrumental in diagnosing ADHD accurately by thoroughly assessing symptoms, developmental history, and functional impairments, which helps differentiate ADHD from other conditions. These evaluations often include standardized rating scales, clinical interviews, and sometimes cognitive testing, providing a comprehensive understanding of the individual’s challenges. This detailed assessment guides personalized treatment plans, whether through medication, therapy, or behavioral strategies, ultimately improving the individual’s ability to manage symptoms and enhance daily functioning.

Medication Management

Pharmacological treatment often involves stimulant medications such as methylphenidate or amphetamines, which help increase attention and reduce impulsivity. Non-stimulant medications like atomoxetine may also be prescribed. These medications work by regulating neurotransmitters involved in attention and executive functioning in the brain.

Counseling

Our counseling services are highly effective for ADHD as they provide personalized strategies to improve focus, organization, and time management, while also addressing emotional challenges like impulsivity and low self-esteem. Through tailored interventions, our counselors help individuals develop coping skills, enhance their executive functioning, and build resilience, ultimately fostering better academic, professional, and social outcomes. Additionally, counseling offers a supportive environment to explore underlying issues and reinforce positive behaviors, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life for those with ADHD.
